I have been wanting to go to a natural hot spring and today we are going to the Chena Hot Springs. This hot spring is 1.5 hours outside of Fairbanks, truly in the middle of nowhere. Out here you can drive for a few hours and not see anything but an occasional driveway that may or may not be clear to drive on. Then all of a sudden a business or house will appear, and the business will have customers. Funny thing is you hardly ever pass or see another car. In this case, it is the Chena Hot Springs, with it’s pretty grounds, a lodge, cabins,

four wheelers to rent, and goats to feed. The hot springs and the indoor pool, that is filled with cooler hot spring water for children, is pungent with the smell of sulfur. It’s so relaxing soaking in the rock pool surrounded with mountains. Getting the jet in just the right spot was almost as good as a massage. We lounged around in and out of the hot water for hours. Sunbathing in the warm 73 degree weather, next to and in naturally occurring medicinal hot springs, in the middle of nowhere Alaska is… well… Ahhhhh!
We had a double treat today. A Bald Eagle posed for me, sitting atop a tree branch, watching a small river for fish. They are so majestic and I never tire of seeing them. Then, a moose was looking for something good in the water.
Today was a really nice quiet day.
