Yellowhead Hwy to The Cassiar Hwy

Beaver Point Resort with host/owner Brenda has been such a nice place to stay directly on Lake Tchesinkut just outside the town of Burns Lake in the Lakes District of Canada.  And does the Lakes District ever have lakes, all so blue and crystal clear.image image image  Everything at the campground was clean and nice. They had piers for fishing, a boat launch, laundry, cabins, image and free firewood. What a nicety.  The days are growing longer and at 10 pm you can see how light it is outside.image But campfires, day or night, are one of my most favorite things in life.image image              Sunset at 10:45 pm                                                                                                                Thanks Brenda for your lovely RV park, this is one place I would love to come back to.

We are heading north on the Yellowhead Hwy that connects to the Cassiar Hwy.image  I have to tell you about the devastation the Loggerhead Beetles are causing. Everywhere you look the mature pines are dead or dying. The Birch trees and young pines that are mixed in are thriving. image  It is such a shame to see thousands of acres of trees dying and it’s the mature trees, 80 years old or older, that the beetles attack.image      I asked if they can do anything with the wood once the tree is dead and they can’t. If they try to use the wood for lumber, it will split when you put a nail into it. So, they are left with dead trees that they will cut down and let nature take its course and in 50 to 60 years they will have a mature forest again.

We passed through Houston and saw the worlds largest Fly Fishing Rod at 60 ft. image     We could catch a big one with that!

You know this drive, on Yellowhead Hwy, with all of this Hustle and bustle is very taxing. And look at what we are stuck looking at.image Rough huh? LOL. We are driving this stretch of road where there is nothing and I mean nothing, no side roads, no houses, no services, nothing … but beauty. Sometimes it is so pretty that it doesn’t seem real, it almost looks like a painting. image This has been one of those drives that Tommy and I are quiet, just taking in the scenery. When we look over at each other, we realize we are both riding down the road with a smile on our face, just feeling good inside.

After we turned onto the Cassiar Hwy, notice I am saying Highway, we came upon this ONE lane wooden bridge over a raging river.image Better be paying attention to what is coming your way on these “highways”.

Doesn’t this camper ahead of us look like it should be on a cover of a camping magazine? image

And just where do the snow caped mountains end and the heavens begin?image
