We attended the Midnight Sun 10 K Run (Walk) and walked the 6 mile course. Our time was: Yes, having fun was definitely more important than our time. Tonight’s Midnight Sun Run and tomorrows Summer Solstice Festival is a really big deal up here. The Walk/run started at 10 pm with over 3000 participants. The course, at one point, went through a neighborhood and the people lined the streets. Many were having BBQs and parties out on the front lawn. Some even had live bands, some had sprinklers, one family had their own antique car show, but one thing is for sure, everyone was having a ball. This is the highlight of the summer for the people who live here. Just think, they don’t have fireworks for the 4th of July because it doesn’t get dark out. Many participants were in costume, some of the costumes were good, some were just fun. This guys costume is “everyone needs a bear hug”. He carried this huge heavy bear for 6 miles (sorry for the blurred pic but he was hustling) and at the end, he needed a bear hug. Some even got their vehicles dressed up. Kelly, being the picture of health, stopped for some ice cream during the walk. My kind of girl!
The Run was such a blast and I am so happy I was able to experience it.
Here is the sunset at 1:30am, but it won’t get dark. The sky will light up with color, then, it will look like it is cloudy out even if there aren’t any clouds. This will last for about 2 hours then it is bright out once again. I am getting used to it now and I love it.
