Hello Yukon, BC you were wonderful and we hope to see you again. We are also saying hello to the Alaska Hwy, the next leg of our journey that will bring us to a special forest and Alaska too.
Tommy and I talked several times about making a sign for the Sign Post Forest and neglected to do so at home. So today we stopped at a hardware store in Watson Lake to get a piece of galvanized aluminum and a big nail so I could do a tin punch sign. I am so excited about being here. This, to me, is one of those stops that your Alaska trip wouldn’t be complete without. This “forest” started during WW II when a soldier working on the construction of the Alaska Hwy posted a sign. The rest is history. Visitors are still posting and we added our contribution today to the over 61,000 signs that are there. The signs are from around the world and are made from everything, from carved wooden plaques, to punched metal items, from dinner plates to car plates, from beer kegs to bed pans, and everything in between. This was a neat experience to see.
A bit further down the road there are different signs. Rock signs. People gather up rocks and form a message on the slope of the roadside. Another neat tradition.
I have to do some work today on darkening the bedroom since it is still light until after 11 pm and is again light at 4 am. I taped aluminum foil over the bedroom windows and put the foil up in the vent. Prior to leaving for out trip I made a canvas cover for the big 30 x 30 skylight in our bedroom’s shower. That works real well. Don’t get me wrong, I love love love the long days, but you do need darkness to help keep your body clock in check. Mine is a little eschew at this time.
A bit of weather is coming our way, see the black streaks of rain coming down. It left us with a beautiful rainbow.
This is just a pretty picture of a beautiful lake to leave you with.
That lake picture is beautiful!
