Goosenecks and Songs

Before we packed up camp, we drove thru the Valley of the Gods to Goosenecks State Reserve. This is 1000 ft deep and holds the San Juan River. The river originates in Colorado and joins Lake Powell. This is one of the finest examples of “entrenched meanders” anywhere in the world. It started flat like the Mississippi, became entrenched when the entire Colorado Plateau slowly uplifted. Cutting downward, the river followed its initial V pattern and thus created the canyon we see now. It is so quiet here, not another sole insight, all you can hear is the river following its course thru the turns of the goosenecks. image image

We are now on our way to Moab, UT and Yup the mountains are changing again. Instead of peaks, now they are rounded rock formations. Some sitting all alone, while others are clustered together, some look like igloos. image

image At every turn of the road, every hill we go over, there is something else to see. I just can’t get over it. It’s so vast.

Another hill and now we have snow capped peaks.image

I have to admit during the last 2 weeks as we are driving, 2 songs keeping popping up in my mind over and over again. America, the Beautiful and God Bless America. I get lumps in my throat on a regular basis seeing what I am seeing. Every state has something unique to offer. All magnificent in its own right.

  1. Good Morning Happy Easter, Dave told me you had left on your Journey some time back and you had a Blog.
But I had no idea how to find the Blog. Did a bit of Google search. Your posts are lovely.
Weather here really nice after all the snow has finally melted. Everyone fine. Congratulations to Kevin. We are a bit out of the loop here on the farm, don't hear from anyone. Enjoy the trip.We are waiting for our first foal to be born, hoped for last night maybe tonight, 2nd one due end of month.
