We ask if we are able to stay here at the Grand Canyon campground for another night and we are told they are not sure. They have space on Saturday but not Thursday or Friday. Hey one day was better than none. We are instructed to come back at 10 am. At 10, no luck, but they asked us to hang out and try back at 11 am. At 10:30 we get a knock at our door. We can stay! We can stay for up to 3 more nights. I am out of my mind happy. I have always wanted to see the Grand Canyon and we are staying right here in the park. It doesn’t get better than this.
Off we go to hike some trails. We took the red shuttle all the way to the furthest west view point, Hermits Rest. We hiked down around the canyon’s rim. Forget the paved paths, we stayed close to the rim on dirt trails. You know there are no railings. At times we were only 6 inches from canyon’s edge. One stumble….. but it was so fun! After 4 miles of hiking we needed a rest so we hopped a shuttle to take us to the Visitor Center. We went to the gift shops, hotels, and museums. Then it was off again for a few more trails and a few new views. Hiked 5 + miles in total today with some steep grades. Grabbed another shuttle back to Hopi Point, which is one of the best view points for sunset. And beautiful she was! I am a happy camper!
