Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon

I have to give a big thank you to Vivien from Walkers Drug store in Moab, UT for suggesting we go to Page, AZ to see Horseshoe Bend Canyon and Antelope Canyon. We are so glad we did.

The pictures will do most of the talking today.

A half mile stroll down deep sandy trails with moderately steep hills. The rocks that were there appeared to have been liquid at one time and was wind blown to form steps that led you to the 1000 ft deep Horseshoe Bend Canyon. The water was so clear and blue, blending to a neon green at the shores edge. It was an awesome sight as you walked around the canyons rim. image image

Antelope Canyon tour- we hesitated on taking this tour. We didn’t want to spend the $32 each but decided to do it when we heard several other people talking about taking the tour. We were also told that the tours sell out quickly, especially the 11:30 am and 1:30 pm tour because of where the sun is positioned, so try to book early. Now, looking back, the tour is priceless. You will soon see why.

We jumped on this white pick up truck with 2 rows of seats in the bed that held 14 adults. A 20 minute drive brought us to a Navajo reservation. We continued our bouncing truck ride on the reservation on what appeared to be a beach. Sand, deep and wide spread, led us to a mountain of sandstone. It looked like we entering a cave but is a slot canyon because it is open at the top. This was carved from flood waters wearing away the sandstone, sculpting twists and turns, creating this masterpiece. The canyon will still flood today with enough rain. Most of these pictures were taken looking up to the top of the canyon just away from direct light. The colors you see are real. When you are in the canyon the color appears to be of reds and yellows, but the camera will also pick up the blue light the eye cannot see. image
