Mud Bogging Whew Hoo!

My friend Snookie suggested we go to the mud bog races in Seward and are we ever glad we did. This was such (do I dare say  it?) good clean fun. You know you are in for fun when the parking lot looks like it’s part of the race track and to get to the field you cross a “break your neck’ kind of bridge.image Going to to be my kind of place. There are several classifications of vehicles – ATVs , stock & modified, heck they even had a snow mobile.  When we arrived the bull dozer was  putting the finishing touches on the bog getting it good and mooky. image We set up our chairs towards the start line. A good vantage point. A sizable crowd was gathering by the time with race began.image This guy is ready for the 4th with his red, white and blue hair. image And these little boys could not stop throwing rocks. I knew one was going in. Boys will be boys. image     The trucks, dune buggies, and ATVs were lined up ready to go.image The idea is to go and go as fast as you can through the bog without getting stuck getting the fastest time. The flag went down and off the first truck went kicking up mud and water. image  image      He made it but the second guy didn’t do so well and he didn’t so well hooking up his pull. The rope came off his tow ball, he had to go in the mud to get it.image There was a lot of hootin and hollerin and cheering the racers on. This 12 year old did a great job and made it through. Do I see a racing career in his future? image Even a snow mobile got into the action. This thing was fast and skimmed the on top of the water.image   This woman, now she shows the Big Boys just how it’s done. And she does it right, let me tell you!image image Halfway through the race the bull dozer came back out to plow more dirt in the bog to make it more muddy to increase the challenge. image     image image image image This beautiful girl came up and sat right on the edge of the bog with no blanket or towel. My first reaction was Wow a young girl sitting right on the mud! Most teenagers are worried about how they look and that every hair has to be in place. image   The foot races through the bog were about to begin. Two categories, under 14 and over 14. Contestants line up and run as fast as they can through the bog. The prize - $20. Most would run the race without a prize. The little kids race began and wow were they excited. Some went in the bog with their boots on but didn’t come out with them. image image This little guy didn’t know what he was getting into. After he ran the race, and on his way back, he realized he was cold, wet, and dirty. Tears began to flow. image                    So cute.

Now for the over 14 group. Imagine my surprise when that beautiful girl who was sitting on the edge of the bog was first up. She was one of 3 racers in the over 14. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the winner.image  image The other female took the $20. The big guy took a verbal beating from his buddies that he was beaten by a girl.  I talked to her after she got cleaned up after the race to tell her how beautiful she was and that it is nice that she isn’t prissy which made her even more beautiful. Her comment back after a thank you was - “oh no way, I love the mud and look forward to this every year!”  You go girl!  Trophies were given out and this group of winners are all family from Fairbanks. image

What a fun day. Good time had by all.
