It is hard to have to stay in a place where the scenery is so bad. I cannot get over how gorgeous Homer is. We are staying out on Homer Spit, The dark line in the water is the spit, a narrow piece of land off of a peninsula our RV is right in front of the fishing lagoon that connects to the Kachemak Bay that encircles the spit. In the lagoon, salmon are swimming but for the most part are eluding the fisherman. At low tide the fish are land locked until the tide comes in again and when it did, seals came in to the lagoon for some easy catching. Behind the lagoon you see what looks to be one long mountain, a ridge, that at its base is the actual town of Homer with houses nestled into the hill. Behind us and across the bay is the Aleutian Mountain range. The snow atop the mountains glow when the sun hits them. Today has been a rainy day with breaks in the rain that leaves thick clouds and sometimes a rainbow. And even on this cloudy rainy day, Homer is beautiful. This is a quaint little fishing town with trinket shops and many fishing charters that has a definite beach feel but not over the top. No rides for kids, no boardwalk, but there is plenty to do, the beach and fish call to you. Does Alaska just keep on getting more beautiful? Once again every hill we go over, every corner we round, more fabulous scenery comes our way. The rain started to end about 9:30 pm and at 11:00 pm the sun peaked through the clouds. Tommy was fishing earlier in the rain but tonight fishing was better even though he didn’t get a bite. And the Eagle was back watching over us.
